Our Purpose

From observers of nature to active participants within it.

We believe healthy ecosystems and healthy communities can thrive together. Many modern systems separate people from the food, wildlife, and natural cycles that sustain life — we exist to help rebuild that relationship.

Through education, stewardship, restoration, and ecological demonstration projects, we help families rediscover their role within the living systems all around them.

A Different Perspective

Conservation and community are not opposing goals.

Too often, protecting nature and living well are framed as a trade-off. EcoRoots operates from a different belief: people and ecosystems can flourish in the same place, at the same time, when we learn to live in balance with the land.

The Future We’re Building

A living example of how we can live with the land.

EcoRoots is more than a nature school. Our long-term vision is a 100-acre sanctuary in Lake County where food, wildlife, education, and community stewardship coexist within a single living system — a model others can replicate.

  • Demonstration Microsystem — food, habitat, and restoration in one working model.
  • Environmental Learning Center — nature school, outdoor classrooms, and workshops.
  • Conservation Property — protected and restored native Florida habitats.
  • Community Living & Learning — spaces to experience ecological living first-hand.

Our Feathered Teachers

Stewardship begins with relationship.

Our small flock of Muscovy ducks are daily companions and living mirrors for the children in our learning community. Through feeding, observing, and caring for them, kids learn responsibility, empathy, and the rhythms of the natural world.

They remind us that tending the land always begins with tending to what’s alive right in front of us.

Help feed the flock

We can’t do this alone.

With your support — through volunteering, partnership, and donations — we restore Florida’s ecosystems and create spaces where people and wildlife thrive together.
